TEMPLE ON A ROCK

If there is a hill, who would not like to go up
To have a view from there, of plains below?
And relish from above the panoramic view
Of the sprawling valley or city scenes below?
If there is also a temple at the top, the desire
To go up becomes irresistible. Quite a few
Temples in south India are seen on hill tops.
If there is a rock as good as a small hill,
If it resembles a fort, with temple on top,
It must be a sight worth seeing, for many.
But, is there such a thing and where is it?
There is one ,a rare one, in Tamil Nadu!

All tourists visiting Tamil Nadu  may not
Visit Tiruchi, on the banks of the Cauvery.
But, those who take the time and trouble
Find it a rewarding experience, no doubt.
Main attraction here is the famous Rock Fort.
A very ancient rock eighty three meters high
With Vinayaka temple at top. Three hundred
Forty four steps, cut into the rock formation
Involving a steep climb, quickly take you there.
View from top of  Rock Fort is enchanting.
Another great attraction is the famous temple
Of Ranganatha, in Srirangam, also very near.
Flower stalls inside temple complex spread
Fragrance which lingers in nostrils for long .
Local people are amiable and help visitors
By guiding them to other places of interest.
