A rich man had his house near highway.
In his compound was a mulberry tree,
Near the gate, casting its shadow, which
Moved with the sun and yearly seasons.

A poor man used to come and rest in the
Shade outside the gate. Owner objected,
Saying he watered the tree for many years.
Poor man offered to pay for using shadow.

Deal was concluded, poor man buying the
Shadow once and for all. Now he started
Bringing his friends and even a donkey.
They quarreled now and then about this.

Owner once held a party in garden house,
When the shadow was fully covering it.
When party was on, poor man entered the
Garden house with his friends and donkey.

Guests took it as insult and left the place.
Sale of shadow, till now a secret, became
Public knowledge. Owner, ridiculed by all,
Left  the place in shame, for another place.

Poor man quietly occupied the house with
His friends and donkey. For the paltry sum
He paid for the shadow, he got a big house
And the mulberry tree along with shadow.
