BODY AFTER DEATH
kvakutty
Burial and burning are the traditional ways
Human bodies are disposed of after death.
Other practices are rare or unacceptable.
But, innovations are always interesting.
Alkaline hydrolysis, a process developed
Sixteen years ago in the US to dispose of
Animal carcasses, is being contemplated for
Human bodies as well in a medical center.
An alkaline solution at high pressure and
Temperature in stainless steel containers
Is used to dissolve dead bodies and the
Remains are flushed down in a drain.
Bones which are left behind can then be
Returned to family in an urn if required.
Cost effectiveness and environmental
Advantages are cited in justification.
It is doubtful whether this will find favor
Easily, because of religious sentiments,
Entrenched conventions, aesthetics and
The normal resistance to any change.
Reverence we show to dead body may be
Partly to make good our past neglect of
The person when alive. It may take long,
Very long, before any change is accepted.
In the long run other ways of disposal
May become acceptable. Who knows?
Keeping human body in good condition
While alive, is by far the greater issue.
As a man discards old dress and wears
New one, soul discards worn out body
And takes on new one. If this Gita view
Is taken, method of disposal is no issue.

...this has become a serious issue ....
as Opulance said keeping human body in good condition while alive is the greater issue .....no doubt .... but at the same time disposal of the dead is a BIGGER issue .......
burial .... where is the space (people are switching over to creamation) .... creamation is pollution of atmosphere . The 'alkaline solution' is again a problem with disposal . If soul goes to new body ... how to dispose of the discarded body ? Then .....
LIVE IT TO NATURE !!!! -- nothing is lost and nothing is gained !
Oh! Madhava , give us a revised new edition of the SRIMAD BHAGAVAD GITA !
