Landlady agreed to serve lunch
to a new boarder. She gave only
one sandwich on the first day.
Boarder said it was not enough.
Next day landlady made two
sandwiches. He ate with relish.
After two days he increased his
demand to four sandwiches. As
this went on, within a few days ten
sandwiches were agreed to by both.
Payment was not the problem. But
landlady had to spend more time
and do more work. One day she
took a big loaf, cut it into two,
applied butter profusely inside
both the halves and kept the big
sandwich on the table as usual.
When boarder came for lunch
And saw this, he asked landlady
“Back to one sandwich again?”

If I were her I would have just left the loaf and butter and told him to make his own
